Winds of Change

Group Exhibition Resource Gallery, Melville, South Africa, 2025

Winds of Change, presented at Resource Gallery in December 2025, marked a deepening of my ongoing introspection into identity and the imposing, undeniable presence of Black bodies. In this series, I juxtaposed Blackness with foliage—most notably the maize cob, an enduring symbol of survival and renewal. Each farming season brings the promise of hope, and in the same way, the work of reclamation and identity is a prolonged, cyclical journey that unfolds over many seasons. By desaturating the patterned backgrounds and allowing the maize forms to emerge with greater clarity, I sought to express a state of becoming—a slow, deliberate blossoming. The maize cob became both anchor and metaphor: a reminder that growth is continuous, and renewal is always possible.
